You Ask. We Answer.

What is Lumios?

Lumios is the world's first human-friendly LED.

Lumios is powered by revolutionary Ra Incandescent LED technology, creating a spectrum with the positive characteristics of incandescent light, but with the performance and technological advantages of LEDs.

Lumios solves all of the main issues with conventional LED lighting: excess blue light, near-infrared deficiency, poor color rendering, flicker, and excessive brightness.

What makes Lumios different?

Lumios is the result of more than a decade of development in the LED space, opposing the broad push for brightness and efficiency at the expense of lighting quality. At Ra Optics, we have been committed for years to solving the issue of modern lighting at its core, and Lumios is the result of this commitment.

Lumios is powered by revolutionary Ra Incandescent LED technology, utilizing advanced chips and light-converting materials to emit a powerful broad spectrum, which more closely mirrors a traditional incandescent spectrum than conventional LEDs.

This spectrum is characterized by low blue light, high quantities of beneficial near-infrared, and ultra-high color rendering. Lumios utilizes high-quality circuitry to eliminate AC flicker, along with an advanced multi-modal design that offers you the perfect light for every space and time of day.

Lumios unifies the biological benefits of the classic incandescent spectrum with the technological capabilities of LED technology, making it the most advanced light ever created.

How is Lumios different from an incandescent bulb?

Lumios is an LED bulb that uses advanced, proprietary Ra Incandescent LED technology to produce a spectrum more similar to incandescent light than conventional LEDs — while delivering the performance and capabilities of modern LED technology.

Due to energy efficiency regulations, high-quality mainstream incandescent production has effectively been phased out. In most places, these bulbs are no longer widely available.

Incandescent bulbs also have several limitations. They still exhibit some flicker, even though it is partially smoothed by the heated filament. They convert roughly 90% of their electricity into heat (far-infrared), which has minimal biological benefit and primarily heats the air and body, affecting comfort, focus, and performance. And they typically last around 1,000 hours.

Lumios is a far more advanced technology — combining the best of incandescent and LED.

It delivers a low-blue spectrum enriched with significant near-infrared, ultra-high color rendering, and completely flicker-free operation, along with a multi-modal design. This includes balanced daytime light, super-warm evening light, and ultra-warm, zero-blue candlelight for nighttime — capabilities not possible with incandescent bulbs.

Lumios is rated for approximately 25,000 hours of use.

Lumios represents a significant step forward in lighting — restoring the best of incandescent light, while advancing far beyond its limitations.

What is wrong with conventional LEDs — and how does Lumios solve this?

Conventional LEDs come with 5 major problems, due to a focus on efficiency and brightness, not on lighting quality.

  • excess blue light: overstimulates the hormonal system, increasing stress and disrupting sleep, while also harming the eyes
  • near-infrared deficiency: a lack of the most essential wavelengths for energy production and cellular health
  • poor color rendering: causing people and objects to appear pale, dull, and lifeless
  • AC flicker: rapid flicker you can't see but causes migraine headaches, reduced cognition, and nervous system stress
  • excessive brightness: increasing stress levels, threatening the eyes, and making it impossible to wind down late in the day

Lumios resolves all of these issues.

  • low/optimized blue light: removing eye strain and stress, while allowing for natural balance and relaxation
  • near-infrared enriched: supports energy production, cellular health, eye & skin health
  • ultra-high color rendering: see people & objects in their true, natural, life-like colors
  • flicker-free: allows your nervous system to relax
  • multi-modal design: a perfect mode for every time of day
How is Lumios different from red/orange biohacker bulbs?

Red/orange biohacker bulbs remove blue light, but they do not produce high-quality light.

They typically rely on either a bulb coated with red paint or plastic, which can degrade over time and allow white light to pass through, or narrow-band red LEDs. In both cases, the result is a very limited, deficient spectrum that is often excessively bright and visually uncomfortable.

Color rendering is extremely poor. Light is reduced to monochrome red or orange tones, with little ability to accurately represent people or objects, making environments feel unnatural and difficult to see clearly.

And despite often being marketed as “healthy,” they are completely deficient in beneficial near-infrared, one of the most important components of a complete, biologically supportive light spectrum.

So while they remove disruptive blue light, they do not create good light — only lower-quality light.

Does Lumios work with my existing fixtures?

Lumios is a standard A19 bulb, the classic household bulb shape, compatible with E26 and E27 screw bases — the dominant residential bulb sockets across North America, Europe, and most of the world. It fits the vast majority of lamps and fixtures globally.

Lumios will soon be available in additional form factors to fit virtually every residential lighting application: B22 bayonet base for UK and Commonwealth markets, BR30 flood bulbs for recessed can housings, canless wafer downlights for new construction, GU10 spots for track and accent lighting, and flexible LED strips for under-cabinet and architectural lighting.

How do I use Lumios? Do I need an app or special controls?

Lumios works with your existing light switch using simple switch cycling — no app, remote, or external dimmer required.

Turn the switch on to activate Lumios. Switch off and on again rapidly to cycle through modes. When Lumios remains off for 10+ seconds, it automatically remembers the last mode for the next use. If Lumios is connected to a dimmer switch, keep the dimmer at maximum intensity and do not adjust.

What is the difference between the 3 Lumios bulbs (Glow, Sky, Candle)?

We offer Lumios in 3 variants for maximum versatility.

Lumios Glow — our flagship bulb, offering perfect light from day to night. 4 modes — daylight, afternoon, evening, candle — allow you to move seamlessly from warm to ultra-warm light throughout the day. Ideal for all spaces: kitchen, dining, living, bedrooms, hallways. Daylight matches the classic warm incandescent; afternoon is slightly warmer, softer, and dimmer. Evening is delicious light for dining, socializing, and relaxing. And candle is ultra-warm, zero-blue light for winding down, reading late, and as a night light.

Lumios Sky — a specialty bulb featuring revolutionary sky mode, optimized blue light for increasing energy, focus, and performance. Designed for brief, intermittent use (10-15 minutes) when you want to energize and perform, sky mode features selective enhancement in the blue light which stimulates the circadian rhythm, while carefully eliminating the more harmful shorter wavelengths of blue and violet light — the first of its kind. Ideal for spaces where you get ready or perform — desk, bathroom, gym.

Sky also includes a daylight, evening, and candle mode for maximum versatility.

Lumios Candle — pure firelight for night; ultra-warm firelight at 3 brightness levels: fire, oil lamp, and candle. Ideal for lounge, nightstand, and accent lighting.

If you are unsure which variant to try, go with Glow. If you prefer only ultra-warm, zero-blue light, try Candle.

Which Lumios bulb should I start with if I'm not sure?

Glow is the all-around balancing light source, designed to provide optimal indoor light from day to night. It is ideal for everyday use across all spaces, including the kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom, and hallways.

Glow includes four modes — from classic incandescent-style daytime light to ultra-warm candlelight at night — making it the most complete single-bulb for every space and setting.

How much blue light does Lumios emit?

All Lumios variants emit low quantities of blue light, especially when compared to conventional LEDs. This blue light is also balanced by beneficial near-infrared output, which is entirely absent from standard LED lighting — and from most biohacker or “wellness” lighting.

Daylight mode emits the most blue light of the standard (non-Sky) modes — closely comparable to a traditional incandescent bulb, and far less than conventional LEDs. Afternoon and evening modes emit progressively less blue light, while candle mode emits zero blue light.

Only sky mode on Lumios Sky emits a significant amount of blue light, by design. This mode is intentionally engineered to maximize circadian activation while minimizing shorter-wavelength, more harmful blue light, and is intended for brief, intermittent use (10–15 minutes) for energy, focus, and performance.

By contrast, most “full-spectrum” or “human-centric” lighting systems emit significantly higher quantities of short-wavelength blue light, often while being marketed for extended use.

Lumios' spectrum was designed to minimize short-wavelength light while maximizing regenerative longer-wavelength light — and this is exactly what it delivers.

Do you offer a warranty?

All Lumios purchases include a 14-day performance guarantee and a 2-year limited warranty. If you are not completely satisfied, you may return Lumios for a full refund within 14 days of receipt.

Our 2-year limited warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship under normal use.

How long do Lumios bulbs last?

Lumios is rated for approximately 25,000 hours of use (≈10 years at 3 hours per day).

This is significantly longer than a standard incandescent bulb (~1,000 hours).
