How does it work? What does it do?
Basically, you turn on the device and expose any area of your body to the light, approximately 6 inches away, for a session of approximately 10-20 minutes per area of the body (we recommend no more than 2 to 3 sessions with 20 minutes per area of the body per day, as the body does not need more, too much is not always better.)
Because the body is all connected, even a session just on the front side of the body will have systemic effects throughout the whole body.
The red light is absorbed by the water and the mitochondria in our cells. Mitochondria are the thousands of tiny engines in our cells that generate energy for our body to function.
This red light has been proven to actually improve the function of these mitochondria, and increase the amount of energy that they produce.
To be clear, when we refer to "red light”, we are referring to Red and Near Infrared (NIR) light, the two spectrums of light that our devices emit, which are the two ranges that have been found to have the most significant benefits for our cells.
On one hand, ample research from esteemed institutions has shown that decreases in mitochondrial function are responsible for all modern chronic illnesses, including:
- diabetes
- obesity
- heart disease
- Alzheimer’s disease
- autoimmune diseases
- cancer
- and more…
On the other hand, therapies that improve mitochondrial function can have tremendous benefits for preventing illness, healing from illness, and, especially, creating robust health.
Red Light Therapy has been clinically proven to:
- Increase energy production in the mitochondria (which leads to general improvement in the function of all bodily systems)
- Promote healthy skin, hair, and nails
- Improve physical performance and recovery
- Promote cellular healing
- Improve sleep quality
- Improve brain function
- and much more...

What can I expect?
Based on the above science and research, as well as what real-life users report from Red Light Therapy, here is what you can expect from using a premium Red Light device like the Ra Medius or Ra Maximus:
- a deep sense of calmness and relaxation during treatments, which can persist for several hours afterwards
- feeling energized and “charged up”, like you just woke up from a good nap
- decreases in pain in the treatment area, and even across the body
- increases in physical performance and recovery time
- increases in skin quality over time
How do I use it?
As written above, we recommend between one and three treatments per day, per area of the body, for 10-20 minutes.
For the minimum effective dose, use the Ra Maximus panel on each side of the body (front and back) for 10-15 minutes, two times per day.
With the Ra Medius panel, you can target any desired area of the body for 10-20 minutes each. We recommend focusing on the face, neck, lungs/heart, gut, and spine, as these are the locations of all the major organ systems.
Of course, we also recommend targeted spot therapy on the arms, legs, hands, feet, and any joints, especially for athletes or those involved in manual labor.
More is not always better. We do not recommend exceeding three treatments per day of 20 minutes, per area of the body.
In general, we recommend using testing, combined with your intuition, to find your ideal treatment duration and frequency. The guidelines we offer are a general recommendation.
When should I use it?
We recommend using red light therapy at any time of day, except 2-3 hours before sleep. This is because very bright light of any color, even if not blue light, can signal to the brain that it is daytime and disrupt the body’s natural production of melatonin.
Ra Red Light Devices can be used for ambient red light at night (see below), but we do not recommend up-close therapy 2-3 hours before sleep because the light intensity is much greater the closer you are to the panel, as is in the case of treatment, and could potentially disrupt sleep.
Use Ra Red Light Therapy in the morning to kick-start your day, as an alternative to coffee, and in the afternoon as a natural form of meditation to relax, feel natural energy, and take the edge off of the day, as an alternative to alcohol or social media.
Which size should I get?
Ra Red Light Therapy is available in two sizes: Ra Medius, and Ra Maximus.
Maximus is our large, near full-body panel, containing 282 LED’s, capable of covering the entire torso, head, and neck.
Ideal for those looking for the minimum effective dose with full-body treatments in the shortest amount of time. Also great for bright, healing, circadian-friendly ambient red lighting for large rooms or houses with an open floor plan.
Medius is our medium-sized panel, containing 85 LED’s, capable of covering a large portion of the torso, or targeted body parts, with a desktop stand.
Ideal for targeted therapy as well as for healing ambient red lighting while indoors, working on screen devices, or for circadian-friendly lighting at night.
As a source of ambient lighting:
Red light from Ra Red Light Therapy Devices naturally offsets the risk of excess, unbalanced blue light from modern screen devices and LED light sources. It also offsets the risk of modern windows, which often filter out much of the healing red and near-infrared light from the sun.
Use Ra Red Light Therapy when indoors during the day as healing ambient light to offset the risk of modern light sources and windows, and at night as a source of circadian-friendly light that has minimal effect on the body’s circadian rhythm.
What is “Pulse Technology”?
In traditional red light therapy, light is emitted continuously, meaning that it is the same.
Research has shown that by pulsing the near infrared light (NIR) component of our devices at different frequencies, kind of like switching a light in your house on and off very quickly, you can experience additional cellular benefits.
We recommend taking advantage of Pulse Mode once per day, or any time you are specifically looking to enhance cellular recovery.
In general, we recommend using testing, combined with your intuition, to find your ideal treatment duration and frequency. The guidelines we offer are a general recommendation.
